"Ratings may not mean much anymore considering TV is dying but why not, let’s discuss anyway.

The Voice S17 premiere scored a 1.7 in the demo with 8.84 million viewers. Lowest premiere and viewers to date, but after last season that’s honestly a lot better than I expected. They won the night by 2/10ths of a point and crushed the other shows in viewers. Impressive.

Final: 1.7, 8.93 million viewers. Pretty good for a show in S17 in 2019.

"Blind auditions 2: 1.5, 8.24 million viewers. Guess Tuesday episodes just happen to have less viewers, I blame NCIS.

Final: Adjusted up to a 1.6 with 8.32 million viewers. Reeeeeally not doing bad at all.

"Blind Auditions 3: 1.6, 8.78 million viewers. Sound about right."

"they adjusted down to a 1.5 and 8.74M viewers. Because of this they didn’t win the night. Oops!"

"Blind auditions 4 - 1.5, 8.91 million viewers. They might hit 9 million viewers in the final update which is pretty strong."

"Final: Adjusted up to a 1.6 again with 9.03 million viewers. Solid! I didn't think they'd ever hit 9M viewers again, but I guess I was wrong."

:| that show is not that good, and she does all those games on her Day show anyway. I've been over Ellen since she was a judge on Idol :teehee:

I don't really mind the show being there, per se. I just wish they'd throw it to Friday for some fluff there. Since Grimm, American Dreams, Providence, Friday Night Lights, and Las Vegas all ended, they've kind of been in need of gripping Friday viewing, and Dateline just isn't it.

1.2/5 7.65 million viewers for the T11 episode.

It's hard to get excited about that, but it's still holding up better than I expected.

The last fall season (S15) was 1.6/6 9.38 for the T11 episode.

I mean the live numbers are slightly better than they were last season :haha:

The performance shows have been about the same at least, but the results have gone UP. At this point I don't think they'll go fractional this season, which is a plus.

It’s a little usual for a results show to outperform the performance show.

  • 2 weeks later...

Over the last two weeks, Monday night numbers have actually risen, but as expected the Tuesday number dropped last week due to the change to 9 pm for the first time this season. It'll be interesting to see how this Tuesday does, now that the audience has had a bit more time to make the adjustment.

THIS week MONDAY 12/09/19:

18-49 Rating/Share - 1.2/5

Viewers - 8.22 million

Last week MONDAY 12/02/19:

18-49 Rating/Share - 1.1/5

Viewers - 8.03 million

Last week TUESDAY 12/03/19

This week's Tuesday Results episode of The Voice rebounded pretty impressively from apparent viewer confusion over last Tuesday's time slot change. I guess viewers' adjusted to the change in time for this week, allowing the episode to not only improve upon the respectable numbers of Monday's performance show, both in terms of share and total viewers (resuming the season's general pattern of Tuesdays bettering Mondays), but also to beat last Tuesday's numbers (see above) handily in every respect: +0.2 in the key demo rating, +1 in share, and a sizable +1.87 million increase in total viewers.

THIS week TUESDAY 12/10/19

18-49 Rating/Share - 1.2/6

Viewers - 8.31 million

My take: Of note, despite initial fears from some quarters of a sharp ratings decline this season (for varying reasons), the numbers across the board over the season have been steady, with any to-be-expected drop-off after the blinds well within acceptable parameters compared with previous seasons. Episodes for Season 17 have quite comfortably stayed at or above a 5 share (mostly above) and above a 1.0 key demo rating (it touched 1.0 just once, predictably last Tuesday due to the time slot change). Last season, several episodes dipped below those markers. This season, episodes have continued to rank mostly 1st or 2nd, and at the very least, rarely 3rd, among shows in their respective time slots, this for a venerable show heading into it's 9th year and 18th season.

I think the tactics of skipping the clip shows and transitioning between rounds within a single 2 hour show paid off.

"This season the Monday and Tuesday editions of “The Voice” are averaging a 1.7 rating in adults 18-49 and 9.9 million viewers overall in “live plus seven day” averages from Nielsen Media Research. In “live plus same day” Nielsens, “The Voice” is undefeated in 18-49 this season in both its Monday and Tuesday timeslots versus regular competition on the Big 4 networks. “The Voice” also adds significant viewership through extended time-shifting on digital and linear platforms, with the show’s Sept. 23 season premiere now up to a 3.5 rating in adults 18-49 and 13.8 million viewers overall when viewership to date on all platforms is counted."

The way media is consumed has changed dramatically in the digital age, especially among the younger key 18-49 demo, which is why the median age skews older for traditional broadcast consumption (60 yrs for the show, per the numbers posted by Dany). So '“live plus same day and seven day” averages'/data on "extended time-shifting on digital and linear platforms" that include both DVR and online viewing numbers are helpful for piecing together a more comprehensive overall picture.
